Domaine de Savigny is located in the Nièvre, a department of Burgundy in central France. Within walking distance you find the village Saint Saulge. The village with the legend of the church and the cow (go look at the church tower), but also with a fine boulangerie, a supermarket, a village pub and a nice restaurant. Burgundy is a region with many beautiful villages and towns well worth a visit. Cities such as Vézelay (with its quaint little streets and impressive Basilica de La Madeleine) and Nevers (with its majestic Palais Ducal) are beautiful. Nevers’ cozy streets with nice stores and terraces offer a nice change from the quiet, green hills of the countryside. Avallon, Autun and Sancerre (pictured here) are also wonderful old towns to spend a day in. The routes there are already a treat!

Whether you want to lounge with a book on the terrace, or just go out and explore the area, everything is possible near Domaine de Savigny! Around St. Saulge there are several mountain bike trails that add up to many kilometers of cycling fun and they all start in the village itself. And it is also great to explore the area by road bike or touring bike! Bikes can be rented nearby. In the area you can make beautiful walks. Short or long, along canals, through hills or through old villages. We have walking maps ready! For the real sportsmen it is possible to go white water canoeing on the Yonne or rafting in the Morvan.

A five-minute drive from Domaine de Savigny is a lovely swimming lake among the woods, Etang du Merle. A place where you can take a refreshing dip on hot summer days and eat an ice cream at the campsite next door. Also, there are two large lakes about 15 minutes drive from our place, where you can sail, surf and of course swim. There also starts a beautiful boat trip on the old and partly underground canal du Nivernais. During your stay we will gladly tell you where the nicest activities are or arrange them for you. And visit the brocantes! Old books, an old bedside table, tools, a box full of junk or a nice candlestick … really everything can be found at the attractive brocantes in the area. Weekly these take place throughout the region. Good for a pleasant (Sunday) afternoon strolling along stuff or enjoying the delicacies offered by local residents.

Wine and good food The wines of Burgundy are famous all over the world. The wine caves in the area are therefore well worth a visit. For example, the wine region around Sancerre and Pouilly ((beautifully situated among the hills) is a feast for the eyes and the wines are delicious! See how the wine is made and taste the various varieties. There are also some great wine trails in the region that you can follow. And should you want to taste those wines over a delicious dinner, you can do that too. The French know better than anyone how to prepare delicious food. So enjoy delicious dinners in fine restaurants, both for lunch and dinner! We will gladly show you the way to the nicest wine caves in the area and the best restaurants!
